Notice to property owners in terms of Section 19(2) of the Municipal Property Rates Act, 6 of 2004

Notice to property owners in terms of Section 19(2) of the Municipal Property Rates Act, 6 of 2004

The new valuation roll in terms of the Municipal Property Rates Act (Act No. 6 of 2004) {the MPRA} will be available for inspection from 20 February 2009. The first rates accounts based on the new valuation roll will be sent out at the end of July.

Attention is specifically drawn to the fact that in terms of Section 50(2) of the Act an objection must be in relation to a specific individual property and not against the valuation roll as such. The form for the lodging of an objection is obtainable from the Municipal Offices.

Your attention is drawn to Section 19(2) of the MPRA which states that "a person is liable for payment of a rate whether or not that person has received a written account in terms of subsection 19(1). If a person has not received a written account, that person must make the necessary enquiries from the Municipality.

All owners must ensure that the information pertaining to their property in the valuation roll is complete and correct and that the postal address is complete and correct for receipt of accounts.

Property owners who have not received a letter from the Municipality indicating their land valuation by 27 February 2009 are requested to make urgent contact with this Municipality at 031 - 78 59313 or 031 - 78 59341.

Mkhambathini Municipality wishes to thank its property owners for their co-operation during the implementation of the Municipal Property Rates Act (Act No. 6 of 2004).
